10 Grain Hot Cereal With CranOrange Relish
Recipe Redux: Whole Grains
We all know whole grains are good for us, but besides whole grain bread, what other products can you use with minimal prep time? If you love oatmeal or grits, you’ll definitely go for Bob’s Red Mill 10 grain hot cereal.
The 10 grain cereal contains whole grain wheat, rye, triticale, oats, oat bran, corn, barley, soybeans, brown rice, millet, and flaxseed. Oh, and you can have it all in 1 bowl for breakfast. Score.
To prepare:
- 1/4 C grain mix
- 3/4 C water
Microwave 3 mins in a large bowl and let set for 1-2 mins. This mix has 5 grams of fiber which is a great filling breakfast. Top the whole grain cereal with antioxidants and use those Thanksgiving cranberries!
Fresh CranOrange Relish
- 1.5 Navel oranges
- 3 C fresh cranberries
- .5 C sugar
In a blender, add sugar, cranberries and roughly chopped orange (yes, the whole thing). Pulse until relish is minced in appearance. Alter to taste. Refrigerate.
This recipe redux is sure to give you lots of ideas for using quinoa and other unusual grains, but I hope you make an effort to fit whole grains into your diet every day. This cereal recipe is a fast fix! No excuses!

YUM! Fast, easy, and tasty = I will try it! Thanks Carlene! When your VT internship class comes to Blacksburg in the spring I hope you have some time to swing by my office and say hi! (I’m in the same building as Carol – the internship director!
Totally score on the grain mix and looks like we were on the same breakfast wave length this month. LOVE the idea of cran-orange relish – esp. this time of year – great recipe!
oooh we don’t have this 10 grain product here in Australia….suppose I could make my own mix, but how convenient is it all ready to go….yummo.
Oh wow, this looks incredible!
I love the relish as well! Perfect for fall!
Carlene, this looks so good. And it’s time for me to move into hot cereal instead of the homemade granola I ususally eat. You win the prize for best photography this month….your photos look great. You should give us all some tips. I really, really struggle with photos.
It’s true–fast is always good. The main thing is to just eat it! I love cranberries, and they feel so festive this time of year!
